This is it: my Incredible Cross-Sections style Moldy Crow!

I apologize in advance for the large size, but on the bright side this allows you to print it full size as well as see all the text.

I took my painting to a company which specializes in digitizing art, then I put it in Paint.NET and added the text and such. I wanted to create the feel of the first ICS book, so it has a small picture from the game Dark Forces of the Moldy Crow and no tech specs.

All of the text is made up by me, and contains a lot of ideas that don't necessarily agree with the official ship description, but that's because the original description is pure baloney in my not-so-humble opinion. For instance, there's no way a ship this small has a boarding ramp or sleeping quarters or a cargo hold or . . . It also gives a good reason why Jan always had goggles on when she flew the ship in Jedi Knight.

It you do print it up full size as a poster, please show me how it looks on a wall. I haven't yet printed it up (I mean, I already have one insanely large painting of the Crow!), so if anyone does so then I'd love to see how it looks.

Star Wars, Dark Forces, and the Moldy Crow are all (c) 1997 by Lucasarts Entertainment Company
Text is (c) 2008 by Me, other than the Star Wars references.

I'm glad to hear that! :D Dark Forces was my very first introduction to FPS gaming, and Star Wars gaming in general, and it holds a very dear place in my heart as well. :)

Thanks! :D I hope to do more of them eventually from the Expanded Universe, when I get back around to painting again. The AT-PT in fact is on my list; I've always loved that little walker and was quite disappointed they never used it in either Revenge of the Sith or The Clone Wars. If I do make a cutaway of it, I'll be sure to run my sketches and text by you to make sure I'm getting it right. I like going to the source for things like that if I can. :)

That would be great! I'd be more than happy to lend my thoughts to the AT-PT cutaway development! :D

Thank you so much! :D

I've always loved picking apart Star Wars ships, trying to figure out the purpose of every little detail, and this is my take on the Moldy Crow. I had hoped it would look legit; I researched every aspect of the ICS books, including what fonts they used (turns out it was Time New Roman). The painting itself took two months of intense labor. It was my "choice" painting, as in choose whatever subject I wanted to paint and then paint it. The Crow was my only choice, but it took a little while to realize that I wanted to paint a cutaway of her. My teacher told me that the last time he saw something that cool and intricate was when a guy painted the USS Nimitz, with all the little details like the elevator mechanisms and rust streaks. I bought that Complete Cross-Sections book so I could use the guide in the back as a reference for painting this sucker, and then after it was painted I wrote all the flavor text in MSWord, edited it for space consideration, then typed it into Paint.NET with callouts.

Once I get some spare cash I'm going to print it up and hang it in my dorm. I've already gotten a million nice comments from people I show it to, telling me they thought it was legitimately from a real Star Wars book! :D It just makes my day when someone tells me that.

I'm really glad you like it. It was a labor of love for all the Dark Forces fans out there. :D

Haha, well if I hadn't gotten the link directly from you.... then you would've fooled me too! Because it does look like it came from a Star Wars book! :D

Wow what a process. That is so hardcore. I applaud you muchly.:clap::clap::clap::clap:

And also, choosing the Moldy Crow for a choice painting wins the internet.

Hardcore? Absolutely . . . see the passive sensor grid? That almost drove me insane. Same with the two hoses hanging in the undercut and the vents on the front of the engines. Man, doing those was a huge pain in the butt. But it was SO worth it! :D
